Serena Di Marino

Serena Di Marino’s professional journey embarked on the new millennium, when she won first prize for the “Riccione Moda Italia”, a competition for young Italian fashion talents. The prize consisted in an internship for the highly recognized Italian label: La Perla. At that time, she researched in the provocative and the fetish subjects like the iconic Betty Page as well as bondage themes. This has transformed the way she perceived the sensuality of women.

As much as she enjoyed her experience at La Perla, she felt it was the time to work in a prêt-a-porter environment and in 2004 she joined the designer team at Gaetano Navarra.

During her childhood her father had always been a large inspiration for her. He has taught her the greatest lesson of her life: to be inspired by everything that surrounds us, transforming the ordinary into magnificence.

In 2007 as she was coming to an end with her transitional experience at Gaetano and after the sudden death of her beloved father, she felt the need for a big change in her life: to find her path in London. She has always felt belonging to the cosmopolitan city of London, since her firsts trips there at the time of La Perla, and finally her time was arrived to make this change.

Soon after moving there she started collaborating with a talented designer, Emilio de la Morena, who signature’s structured shapes are at the essence of her inspiration. Understanding a new way of working of English designers she attended the draping on a stand short courses at the prestigious London College of Fashion.

After being 3 years at Emilio’s side, where she helped developing the label from upcoming to establish, in 2011 she finally felt ready for her next challenge, and plusthirtynine was born.
