Raffaella Bertolini

Born in Genova (Italy) in 1972. Raffaella Bertolini started showing an interest in drawing since a very early age.

In 1998 she moved to London to work and learn English. Still in search of new ways to express herself in her art and learn new techniques, she completed two oil painting courses at the Richmond Adult College.

Raffaella’s Art has developed over many years. She explored a variety of mediums and forms, such as, water colour, acrylics, oil colours, mosaics and decoupage.

She has a passion for the figurative art; portraiture is her main subject focusing primarily on the female figure. Her style is a mixture of Pop, Psychedelic Art with a touch of humour.

Constantly in search of new ways to express herself, she developed a new technique using alcohol based inks on Yupo paper. With this medium she was able to incorporate a “psychedelic” element onto her portraits, bright, colourful, vibrant effects that gave the painting an almost three dimensional feel. She produced a large number of these artworks which she called “Pop-psychedelic” art.

Her latest works are a series inspired by French popular Icons, Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot painted on background that resembles the famous Mondrian paintings.
